New work update...

A couple of pictures of the first new piece ready for its bisque firing. Everything seems to be holding together so fingers crossed! Now I just need to decide how to colour it..

 

It has a feeling of roller coasters, architcture and textiles and by working with pre made component parts, it has gradually evolved rather than following to a detailed drawing which is how I have worked in the past. It's much more organic and enjoyable working like this and hopefully the next few pieces I have in mind will go as successfully.

New work for Potfest in the Pens 2014

I'm taking part in this year's Potfest in the Pens show for the first time. It's a well established ceramics only exhibition and selling show that's held in a cattle shed in the Lakes! There are about 130 ceramicists taking part and it's over three days in the beginning of August. It's very well known and buyers come from all the world to buy and collect so I'm really hoping it goes well.

I've decided to create a whole new body of work for this and I've already started work on some pieces, see the photos. They are developments of my lace technique but including more architectural elements so I'm looking at building structures, towers as well as medieval textile forms and patterns.

I'm going to make some wall mounted peices and some large free standing ones, hopefully they will stand out a little from the other work on show which is mainly functional work.

Update..

It's been a while since I updated this so here a few updates...

I've been working on making some tiles for the Southport Flower Show which is in late August.
Our studio, the Southport Ceramics Studio, is taking a stand there with 18 of our students who are making pieces to sell and promote the studio.

Craft Fairs and pop up shops..

Here's some of the Christmas Decorations I've been making for the St George's Hall Christmas Fair and the Dot Art Pop up Shop in Cavern Walks..

They come in their own box and I think they're rather nice! The orange one is made from terracotta and the white one is made from porcelain.

The Willow Pattern plates and mugs are due to be delivered on Monday so fingers crossed! It's our first large order, 50 each of the plates and mugs and I've got nice boxes for them and I think they could be popular. Really hope they are!

I've got some old stock of Ghosts and Clouds as well which I hope to sell over the next few months.

Capstone Gallery

Capstone Gallery work.

The show is up in the Capstone Gallery, a nice space in the foyer of the Capstone Theatre. The university has given me four display cases to exhibit new work using the extruded clay process that I developed during my placement there.

The last image is the Gloriana piece in my living room where you see it more clearly.

The exhibition looks really good and I'm very pleased with it. It's my first exhibition for quite a while and although it's fairly small scale, I'm pleased to be part of the university's Biennal programme.
It's on til January 2013.

Capstone Gallery Work

I've been invited to exhibit at the Hope University's Capstone Gallery in September. It's part of my recent AA2A placement in the Ceramics Department and allows me to develop some of the work I was exploring in the department earlier this year.

I've been making new work, using the lace technique and some work with coloured slips. Some pictures of some of the work in progress here.
